North Perry Village is hoping that a new advisory committee will help to bolster economic development activity in the community.

Village Council, at its most recent meeting, voted unanimously to approve the formation of a village Economic Development Committee.

The new five-member panel, consisting of village officials and residents, is intended to “further facilitate Village Council’s desire to increase economic development in the village,” according to the ordinance passed by council.

While North Perry is part of the Perry Economic Development Council, the village also wants to step up its own efforts to attract new businesses, Mayor Ed Klco said.

“We would love to try to find a restaurant or two, or any small businesses interested in coming to North Perry,” he said.

Property along the north side of Route 20, which is in North Perry’s boundaries, would be well-suited for a variety of businesses, since it offers infrastructure such as city water, sewers and gas, he added.

The new Village Economic Development Committee will consist of the mayor, two North Perry Village Council members and two village residents appointed by council. Each council member and resident chosen will serve two-year terms on the board.

Klco said Councilmen Roy Blalock and Mike Cutler are likely to act as council representatives on the new committee. Residents interested in applying for the panel are invited to call Village Hall at 440-259-4994 for more information.

“We hope to have the committee in place and hold the first meeting in July,” Klco said.
