BENGALURU:
Lalbagh, the city’s key lung space that draws hundreds of visitors every day, is set to get a
smart parking system in less than four months.
“People usually come here to enjoy and there is no place for them to park their vehicles. So we have taken this initiative to make sure there are proper parking facilities inside Lalbagh,” said YS Patil, director, horticulture department,
Lalbagh Botanical Gardens.
The smart parking is equipped with an LCD display showing the number of vacant and available spaces for parking, said Patil. The system is expected to enable judicious use of available space by having white markings to prevent haphazard parking.
The parking space will be able to accommodate 20-25 buses, 250 cars and 300 bikes, and draw charges of Rs 50, Rs 30 and Rs 10 per hour respectively, he added.
Lalbagh’s regular visitors are more than happy with the proposal. “I come to jog on Sunday mornings and there is absolutely no place to park my car because the early birds would have occupied the place. This system will help in better management,” said Prasad M.
“We are also replacing the tarred roads with cobblestones to ensure water does not stagnate during the rainy season,” Patil revealed.
