CHENNAI: The results of next year's Class XII exams of the
Tamil Nadu state board will be released on April 19 in view of the
Lok Sabha elections. The results will be out at least 27 days earlier than this year when they were released on May 16. Students of Class XI, whose examinations will held from March 6 to 22, will be the first batch studying the revamped syllabus. The Class X examinations will be held from March 14 to 29.
School education minister K A Sengottaiyan said the dates were finalised after consulting teachers who said there was adequate staff strength to complete evaluation on time without any problem.
In the past, board examinations were spread over 40 days with a gap of two or more days between exams. In 2019, they will be completed in 18 days, with students writing only six papers instead of eight. English and language will have only one combined paper each.
The directorate of government examinations has also compressed the exam schedule. Sources said this was to give more time for students to prepare for competitive exams and to wrap up the process before the elections.
