CHENNAI : Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday was at his best during the discussion on the demands for grants to Highways and Public Works Departments, the key portfolios held by him. He was assertive in his replies to opposition leaders whenever they levelled any charge.  In all, more than 30 times, he intervened and clarified issues. The speech of DMK MLA I Periyasamy lasted for one and half hour, which was  marked by The CM’s clarifications.

The CM gave in-depth replies and sometimes, he turned the tables at the DMK members, charging that they had indeed failed to bring significant road projects to Tamil Nadu despite being in power in the State and at the Centre for a long time. Minute details about tenders and how contract works were being carried out were the highlights of the CM’s responses.

When Periyasamy said nothing had been done to implement  the skywalk project near the Central station, Palaniswami replied since the Centre had promised to implement this project, the State government did not take it up.The Siruseri road project, Vandalur road extension, Taramani-Chengalpattu elevated expressway etc., were some of the projects on which clarifications were given. He also said Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had promised to take up the Taramani-to-Chengalpattu elevated expressway.
