PORT ST. LUCIE — J.J. Franco hit a run-scoring single in the sixth inning, leading the St. Lucie Mets to a 5-3 win over the Daytona Tortugas on Monday.
Alex Palsha got Michael Beltre to ground out with a runner on first to end the game for his second save of the season.
The single by Franco came in the midst of a three-run inning and gave the Mets a 4-3 lead. Later in the inning, Ian Strom hit an RBI double, bringing home Anthony Dimino.
Daytona went up 3-0 on a solo home run by Tyler Stephenson in the fourth inning. St. Lucie answered in the fifth inning when Franco hit an RBI double and then scored on a single by Gene Cone.
Starter Gary Cornish (2-5) got the win while Aaron Fossas (2-1) took the loss in relief in the Florida State League game.
With the win, St. Lucie improved to 3-1 against Daytona this season.
The Tortugas play a doubleheader Tuesday at St. Lucie starting at 4 p.m.
