ROHTAK: High drama prevailed in Mokhra village of Rohtak district on Monday after district administration cancelled an event to felicitate controversial BJP MP from Kurukshetra Raj Kumar Saini, after Jat community members threatened to oppose him.
Members of Loktantar Suraksha Manch, a body headed by Saini, had organized a ‘samman samaroh’ in the village. Mokra is dominated by Malik gotra (sub-caste) of Jat community.

Residents of Mokhra village held a panchayat accompanied by members of All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) on Monday and threatened to oppose Saini if he entered their village.

Jats had been opposing Kurukshetra MP Saini for his controversial statements against the community. His statements also flared up the situation during Jat agitation for reservation in February 2016.

Spokesperson of Loktantar Suraksha Manch Tejvir Sen had said no matter how much Jats oppose Saini, he would come to Mokhra.

Sensing the volatile situation, SDM Rakesh Kumar, Rohtak municipal commissioner Pardeep Dagar and DSP Ravinder Kumar reached the village on Monday morning and cancelled the event. Police also directed the organizers to not hold any meeting related to Saini in view of the ongoing tension in the area.

Following the event cancellation orders, Saini held a press conference near Mokhra and alleged that his voice was being suppressed as he was “speaking the truth”.

Addressing the newsmen, he said the five chief ministers from the dominant community of Haryana had ruled the state and indulged in favoritism to help people of a specific caste. He said those who were opposing him were frightened of getting exposed by his meetings with people in the villages.

Earlier, another event at Dubaldhan village of Jhajjar district, where Saini was the chief guest, was cancelled by the district administration on May 27. Jats in Dubaldhan had also opposed his arrival in the village due to his controversial statements about the community.
