HUBBALLI: All hotels, bars, lodges, sweet shops, bakeries, street vending shops and others shops remained closed till evening on Monday as part of the bandh call given by hotel owners association. The association had given the bandh call to protest the assault on a hotel owner and labourers by some youths in a hotel near Basava Vana a few days ago.
The Hubballi Hotel Sangha, along with various organisations, took out a rally from the Sangha’s office on Maratha Galli in Hubballi and condemned the frequent assaults on hoteliers and other traders in the food industry from the past few months.

The rally passed through Old Mysore Store Cross, Dajiban Peth, Sangolli Rayanna Circle before reaching the tahsildar’s office.

The protesters submitted a memorandum urging chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and deputy chief minister Dr G Parameshwara to improve the security of those in the food industry.

Addressing the protesters, Hubballi Hotel Sangha president Krishnamurthy Uchilla said there is need of strict enforcement of law against law breakers.

Hoteliers are facing frequent attacks and yet the victims are not getting any justice. There is a need to initiate stern action against those who are breaking the law by attacking innocents, added Krishnamurthy.

Former Sangha president Sudhakar Shetty said attacks on hoteliers and others involved in the food industry have increased in Hubballi-Dharwad. “Police should initiate stern action against the perpetrators. The state government should take serious note of the incidents and provide security to the traders. If such incidents are not curtailed and if police fail to arrest those who assaulted a hotel owner and labourers, the Sangha will launch a state-wide agitation,” he added.

Sarvottam Kamath, Srinivas Okade, Sarvottam Shetty, Ramanand Shetty, Ratnakar Shetty, Vivek Hegde, Rajendra Shetty, Ratnakar Gouda, Sukumar Shetty, Arvind Mane, Deepak Shetty, Dinakar Shetty, Mahesh Gouda, Ratnakar Gouda and others were present at the protest.
