The officials of Ranchi district administration were on toes since Sunday afternoon when a major clash between two communities was averted in the heart of city. Although, situation was controlled after a brawl between BJYM cadres and locals near daily market, forces were deployed in the sensitive areas of the capital city to ensure peace.

A clash like situation following verbal arguments and stone pelting took place near Daily Market area on Sunday afternoon when BJYM cadres started shouting communal slogans during their march to celebrate 4 years of government at the centre. When the youths were stopped by the locals an unruly scene took place that resulted in a clash finally stopped by the police force.

Situation remained tense in the city triggered by rumours till Monday morning. However, presence of heavy force at sensitive places by city police ensured there was no untoward incident. Senior SP Ranchi also issued a warning against rumourmongers asking them to stop spreading false information regarding the situation. The warning stated that the group admins would also be prosecuted in case of violation of the directive.

Peace committee meetings were also organised in several police stations across the city to pacify the situation. Police officials were asked to remain alert and stop any provocative actions in their areas ahead of Eid.

Meanwhile, Opposition parties criticized the government for allowing BJYM cadres for a provocative rally and letting them disturb communal peace. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha said on Monday that permitting such a rally despit High Court orders was condemnable. It demanded a judicial probe in the incident and action against BJYM cadres, who allegedly disturbed peace in the city.

However, the BJP termed JMM’s stance unfortunate and politically motivated. It said that the incident was orchestrated by anti-social elements and the BJYM workers were no nowhere to blame for. The party said that it was everyone’s Constitutional right to express happiness over events that they liked.  The march was stopped by some anti-social elements and they started stone pelting. The JMM is giving communal colour to the incident, which appears to be a knee jerk reaction of the party due to development oriented politics of the BJP, it said.
