AHMEDABAD: A 29-year-old youth on a motorcycle was mowed down by a
bus of Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) near helmet circle in Memnagar area of the city on Monday.
The road has got narrowed due to the ongoing construction work for the metro train project here, yet the bus driver reportedly tried to overtake the youth on the motorcycle, sources said.

Gujarat University police on Tuesday identified the deceased as Pavan Prajapati, an executive with a private firm and a resident of Khadia.
“The accident occurred on Monday morning when Pavan was riding towards Memnagar from Vijay Crossroads. A bus hit him from behind causing him severe injuries in hands, legs and head. The accident occurred in front of a petrol pump where barricades have been placed in view of the ongoing metro rail construction work,” the FIR filed by deceased’s brother Sunny Prajapati said.
Prajapati was shifted to Sola Civil Hospital but he breathed his last there on Monday evening.
When contacted, Sunny said his brother had started working after completing his BCom. “According to onlookers at the petrol pump, the bus driver had tried to overtake my brother and in the process rammed into his motorcycle. My brother fell down and was unconscious. We got a call from a relative saying that Pavan was hospitalized after an accident. We found him unconscious and later he died during treatment,” Sunny added.
Gujarat University police booked the bus driver on the charges of culpable homicide and rash driving and also under Motor Vehicles Act. Police have collected CCTV footage of the accident as an evidence in the case.
