LUDHIANA: The branch manager of a private bank’s branch in Thareeke has been booked for allegedly forging the signature of a 50-year-old woman customer for transferring Rs 75,000 from her
bank account towards the payment of a life insurance policy.
The Thareeke branch manager of Axis Bank, Nidhi Thakur, has been charged with cheating and forgery. The case was registered against her at Sarabha Nagar police station on Sunday.
According to police, the FIR has been registered after a thorough preliminary probe into accusations levelled by Inderpreet Kaur, a resident of Barewal Awana. In her complaint to the police, Inderpreet had alleged that she had saved Rs 75,000 in her bank account.
In July last year, she sent her husband to get a statement of transactions from the bank. When she checked the document, she found that Rs 75,000 had been debited from her account and paid towards a life insurance policy.
When she enquired, she found out that somebody had forged her signature to buy the policy and transfer the money out of her account. The accused had also used a forged copy of her PAN card for the same.
The woman had lodged a police complaint last year. The SHO of Sarabha Nagar police station, inspector Brij Mohan, said they had investigated into the matter and found the involvement of a bank employee. The police were yet to arrest the accused when this report was filed.
