The Madhya Pradesh Congress has asked for a CBI probe into the death of Bhaiyyuji Maharaj, an Indore-based spiritual guru who committed suicide by shooting himself at his residence on Tuesday.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Harinarayanchari Mishra said that Maharaj mentioned mental tension in his suicide note that the police seized from the spot. "We have seized the suicide note. In the suicide note, he has mentioned mental tension but the reason for the tension is not known as yet. We are investigating the case," ANI quoted Mishra.

However, the Congress blamed Madhya Pradesh government for putting pressure on Maharaj. "Madhya Pradesh government had put pressure on him to accept privileges and support the government, which he refused to do. He was under a lot of mental pressure. CBI probe should be done," ANI quoted Manak Agarwal, Congress.

Maharaj was at home when he shot himself in the right side of his head. He was taken to Indore's Bombay hospital, where he succumbed.

He advised heavyweight politicians and enjoyed cordial relations with senior leaders across party lines.
