Haryana DGP hands over Rs 30L cheque to wife of late constable

Haryana Director General of Police, BS Sandhu on Monday handed over a cheque of Rs 30 lakh as accidental death insurance claim to Kusum, wife of Late Exemptee Head Constable (EHC) Bhagirath, who had lost his life in a firing incident, which happened at Siwani Court complex in district Bhiwani on May 7.

Sandhu also offered free education upto XII standard in any DAV Police Public School to the daughter of Bhagirath, who laid down his life in the line of duty.

Sandhu said that Bhagirath would be long remembered for his bravery and services to the Police Department.

Director General of Police, Headquarters, KK Mishra and Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Mohd. Akil were also present on this occasion.

The cheque was given under an agreement of accidental death insurance cover where salary account is maintained with the bank, said an official spokesman.

He said that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Haryana Police and HDFC Bank Limited had been signed in August 2015 for the payment of salaries to employees through the bank. As per the MoU, Rs two lakh is being given to cops on natural death and Rs 30 lakh in case of an accidental death.

The spokesman said that keeping in view the arduous nature of duty, senior officers of Haryana Police have taken important decisions from time to time for the welfare of police personnel. This facility being provided under the agreement between Police Department and the Bank, would build a sense of security among police personnel.

On this occasion, representatives of the bank apprised that out of the 289 claims of natural and accidental death received so far, 233 claims to the tune of Rs18.82 crore have already been settled. The remaining would be settled shortly, he added.
