NEW PHILADELPHIA A Goshen Township woman told sheriff's deputies Tuesday that she sent nearly $25,000 over a six-month period to a man who claimed to be a surgeon living in Afghanistan.
The woman said she and the man had been talking for six months or longer. She said she also received a call from another man who claimed to be an attorney for the first man. They talked the woman into creating an account at her bank and not placing any money in it.
They got her to send money on several different occasions. She said she sent anywhere from $500 to $10,000 at a time. They also told her that the first man wanted to marry her and was getting the paperwork ready for her to sign.
The woman told deputies she is going to close the bank account.
