GURUGRAM: A Nigerian citizen was arrested from Greater Noida for cheating a city-based woman of Rs 15 lakh. Paul Begami Injekil, native of Naswara state in Nigeria, was produced in a city court on Monday and taken into police remand.

According to the cops, Injekil befriended the deaf and mute woman on Facebook on January 9. He introduced himself as Wood Pascal, a Scottish national. After interacting for a few days, the 30-year-old woman shared her WhatsApp number with him. The woman, a tailor with the Air Force in Palam Vihar, told cops that Injekil told her that he wanted to send her a few gifts, including diamonds, gold watches, mobile phones, laptops and 20,000 pounds to help her family.

On January 22, she received an SMS from a courier service in Delhi, that a parcel had arrived for her from Scotland but she had to deposit Rs 20,000 against the goods. A bank account number was mentioned in the SMS, where the payment had to be made. She instantly made an online deposit.

But the messages didn’t stop. She continued to get messages asking her to deposit money with regard to some clearance or other. By February 8, the woman had deposited Rs 14,95,229 to different bank accounts. She finally approached the cops on April 3. An FIR was registered at Cybercrime police station.
