SUGARCREEK When it comes to summer festivals, it is all about the weather. Such was the case at the Fabulous 50’s Fling. Rain damped the event, but a good crowd was on hand to listen to the music of “The BelAirs.”
The two-day event drew 118 cars on Friday evening and 130 cars on Saturday.
Mayor Clayton Weller, chairman of the event, said the Fling usually attracts between 250 and 275 cars at the Saturday event and a few less on Friday.
Visitors were treated to a top-notch car show both at Friday night’s Cruise-In and all day Saturday with the weather as a factor ended the car shows early both days.
The annual event is sponsored by the Sugarcreek Business Association. Weller lauded his 50’s committee and personally thanked Kyle Lahm, Ann Lahm, and Angie Miller for registering the cars and Kyle Miller, Derrick Regula, Landon German and Matt Olinger for parking the vintage cars. He also thanked the sponsors of the Fling and vendors.
This year marked the 14th annual Friday night Cruise-In.
Yesterday’s Classics Car Club from Canton judged the cars. The cars were judged when they registered and prior to the cars being parked.
Marion Espenchied of Dover won Best of Show for a 1939 Buick Special. He was awarded a $500 cash prize sponsored by Hummel Insurance of Berlin.
The top 50 awards received a small cooler.
