Candlelight march held to condemn killing of Guwahati youth

Condemning the lynching of two Guwahati-based youth in Karbi Anglong district, residents called upon the government to bring in an anti-mob lynching law. They staged a candlelight march on the Serenity Beach near here.

The victims — Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Nath — were brutally killed by a mob near Kathilangso waterfall on Sunday by villagers who mistook them to be child abductors.

Terming the incident as shocking and inhumane, the participants said that mob lynching had become a huge issue in the country. This must end. People have to trust the law and not take it into their hands, said a participant.

Ethnic clashes

The members claimed that Karbi Anglong district was concentrated with the indigenous Karbi tribes and there have always been ethnic clashes across the North East in the past.
