Teenage girl sexually assaulted by woman at Newport railway station
A teenage girl on her way home from school has been sexually assaulted at a train station in Melbourne's west.
The 17-year-old was leaving Newport station at 2pm on May 1 when she was attacked from behind by an unknown woman.
CCTV footage released by police shows the woman at the station, looking over her shoulder and smiling as she puts on sunglasses.
Police said the footage was taken immediately before the incident.
The woman is described as being in her 30s with brown hair tied in a bun and a tattoo or writing on her right thigh and lower back.
The woman was wearing a black singlet, black shorts, black thongs and had a white long-sleeved top draped over her shoulders.
Police believe she may have been at the station with a Caucasian man wearing an Essendon Bombers baseball cap, an open, dark-coloured shirt over a red T-shirt and dark-coloured pants.
