NEW DELHI: Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s condition remains critical although he is responding to treatment and is on antibiotics, reports Durgesh Nandan Jha. “He will continue to be in hospital till his infection is controlled,” AIIMS said in a statement released on Tuesday afternoon.
It was followed up with another statement reiterating that the 93-year-old was responding well to treatment.
Vajpayee is in the ICU of the cardio-thoracic and vascular sciences (CTVS) division. The entire corridor of the first-floor ICU has been cordoned off. A team of experts led by AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria, who specialises in chest medicine, is monitoring the vitals of the BJP stalwart who was rushed to hospital on Monday for
urinary tract infection, respiratory and kidney-related issues.
Vajpayee, who is diabetic and has only one functional kidney, suffered a stroke in 2009 which affected his cognitive abilities.
On Tuesday, former PM
Manmohan Singh and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat visited Vajpayee.
