Hussainabba's body exhumed for magisterial probe

MANGALURU/UDUPI: As part of custodial death procedures, body of 61-year-old Hussainabba, who was allegedly killed by cow vigilantes with help of three local policemen, was exhumed from Idgah graveyard at Jokatte here on Monday. Inquest was performed in presence of magistrate and other officials.
Though body inquest is performed soon after confirmation of police custodial death but it wasn’t possible in the case of Hussainabba, whose death in police jeep came to light only after four days. He was buried after conducting post mortem, a day after his death. Highly placed sources from police department told TOI that role of police where victim died in their jeep came to light after four days and as per National Human Commission Rights, any police custodial death must have certain procedures to follow. The reports of the same will be submitted to commission.

Sources said that during the inquest, relatives, investigating office and police from local police station were present. After the legal formality, the body was again buried, duly complying with religious procedures.

Sources also added that further probe of death of Hussainabba will be taken over by CID, as cases relating to custodial deaths are probed by this department. Meanwhile, all the accused including three officers have not received bail.
