COIMBATORE: Members of the Joint Action Council of Teachers Organizations and Government Employees Organizations (Jacto-Geo) on Monday staged a protest at the
Coimbatore district collector’s office demanding that the complementary pension scheme (CPS) be withdrawn and the old pension scheme be brought back.
Teachers and government employees who had gathered to protest also demanded that the state bring
anganwadi workers under regular timescale pay. “Grade B employees of the government have not received pay arrears for 21 months under the new pay scheme,” a protester said.
The state-level office-bearers of Jacto-Geo had started an indefinite hunger fast in Chennai on Monday. “Until the state invites them to hold talks, Jacto-Geo members would hold protests on every evening from 6pm to 7pm at the collectorates of their respective districts,” said another protester. The protesters said they had chosen to stage their demonstration on evenings after work as it should not affect functioning of schools and offices.
