VARANASI: Timely intervention of air traffic control staff averted a collision between two Delhi-bound flights of
SpiceJet and
Indigo at the runway of
LBS International Airport on Tuesday.
Anil Kumar Rai, the airport director, said that a report on incident has been sent to the Director General Civil Aviation (DGCA) in this regard.
According to reports, the Delhi-bound flights of Spice Jet and Indigo were scheduled for take off at around 10.30am.
Rai said, “On getting signal from the air traffic control, the pilot of Indigo’s flight came on runway for take-off whereas the pilot of the SpiceJet flight was asked to stay at holding point of apron and come on runway after the Indigo’s flight takes-off”, he said.
However, the pilot of the SpiceJet flight reached 10 meters ahead of the holding point, said Rai adding, the traffic control staff took note of it and alerted the pilot of Indigo’s flight to avoid take off.
The timely action of the air traffic control staff averted the collision, said Rai adding that pilot of the SpiceJet plane admitted his mistake.
