Aircel-Maxis: ED quizzes P Chidambaram for 2nd time

NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday questioned former finance minister P Chidambaram for the second time in its money laundering probe in Aircel-Maxis deal, amid indications that it is likely to file a chargesheet against his son Karti on Wednesday. It couldn’t be ascertained if Chidambaram will also figure in the chargesheet.

Sources said that on Tuesday, the Congress leader recorded his statement as per the procedure in Prevention of Money Laundering Act and he was asked questions on the circumstances and procedures adopted by the now-defunct Foreign Investment Promotion Board while giving approval to the Aircel-Maxis deal during his tenure.

After six hours of questioning, Chidambaram tweeted “Another round of questions by ED in Aircel-Maxis case. I remind myself that there is no FIR and no offence is alleged.”
