People expecting heavy downpour from second week of June have to wait for some time more as monsoon advancement here have been deferred due to weak cloud formation. The weather bulletin released by MET Observatory Ranchi Centre on Monday suggested that monsoon this year will reach Jharkhand late, probably in the last week of June due to sudden changes being witnessed at the Bay of Bengal.

“Due to weak monsoon cloud formation, advancement of southwest (SW) monsoon by June 15 here is likely to get deterred for at least one week to 10 days. Due to sudden change in the system, the monsoon arrival here is delayed,” said Senior Scientist, Ranchi MET Observatory Centre, RS Sharma.

“Conditions are becoming favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some parts of Odisha, remaining parts of northwest Bay of Bengal and northeastern states including some parts of West Bengal during next 48 hours. Thereafter, no further advance is likely during next one week due to probable weakening of monsoon flow,” added Sharma.  According to earlier prediction of MET Observatory Ranchi Centre, the monsoon was expected to hit the State on probable dates – June 13 to June 15.

However, uneven rainfall at a gap of regular interval will lash Ranchi and its adjoining areas till June 13. “Thunderstorms accompanied with light rainfall will continue till June 13 here in Ranchi and its adjoining regions. From June 14, chances of drizzle lashing city after regular gap is quite feeble,” Sharma further added.

Meanwhile, light rainfall accompanied by gusty wind (30-40 kmph) lashed interior parts of Bokaro and Ramgarh on Monday. As per the weather bulletin, Ranchi registered maximum 32.8 degree Celsius while minimum 24.2 degree Celsius. Jamshedpur and Daltonganj registered maximum 36.0 degree Celsius and 35.6 degree Celsius respectively. Daltonganj that generally reels under 38 degree Celsius to 40 degree Celsius, recorded 1.0 mm rainfall on Monday bringing the mercury level down there.
