Actress Trisha launches signature campaign, pledges support to end child labour

CHENNAI: Terming as a myth that child labour brings in additional income to a family, popular film actress Trisha Krishnan on Tuesday pledged her support to end all forms of child labour, which was one of the most violent acts of abuse against children.

Launching a signature campaign and a student's rally, organised by the Tamil Nadu Labour and Employment Department in coordination with UNICEF to mark the World Day against Child Labour at Park.

"Little amount that child labourers receive, causes them to lose their future, which in fact, is a huge loss that we as a society cannot afford'," said Trisha Krishnan, who is also the UNICEF Celebrity Advocate

According to UNICEF, most of the children were employed because they could be exploited and it was in such workplaces there were many cases of sexual abuse against children.

''It is unacceptable to see these children in such unsafe environment exposed to such hazardous situation'', said Trisha.

Child labour can severely affect their health, safety and cognitive development. These risks can have an irreversible impact on their development, health and well being.

" Children are employed as they can be easily exploited and there is no doubt that child labour is most violent acts of abuse against children as they were being denied even basic rights like education and leisure. We should all in our own small way join hands and put an end to child labour'', adds Trisha.
