Letter: Experience tavern with own taste buds

I've lived in Altamont for 50 years, dine frequently at Veronica's Culinary Tavern, and have issues with Susie Davidson Powell's June 3 restaurant review "Sugar on top."
She describes her long "trip" to Altamont. The charming village of lovely homes and warm residents is only 15 minutes from Albany/Colonie and 10 minutes from Schenectady/Rotterdam.
She begins by mentioning the restaurant that previously occupied the space. She states that Veronica's is Altamont's only restaurant, but there are restaurants at Orchard Creek, Indian Ladder Farm, and a cafe nearly next door. Once the real review begins, she attacks the "identity" of the restaurant as not in keeping with the character of Altamont. The restaurant's dining rooms of dark wood, framed family pictures and friendly waitstaff are all characteristic of our community.
The overall opinion of chef Alex Carusone's tastefully created dishes is that she found everything, as "too sweet," yet raves about the house-made gelato. If she is concerned about a sauce not to her liking, she should order the sauce on the side.
I have tried all dishes she criticizes and couldn't disagree more. Chicken saltimbocca, steak Veronica, and scallops are all favorites, and they are not as Powell describes.
I would urge people not to be swayed by one person's critical words. Make the short ride to the beautiful village, and experience the amazing job that owner Peter Blackman and chef Carusone are doing to provide a delightful dining experience.
