BENGALURU: Miffed over not getting ministerial berth, senior
Congress leader Satish Jarakiholi has resigned to his
AICC secretary post.
Satish, a three-time MLA from Yamakanamaradi and an influential ST leader, sent his resignation letter to AICC president
Rahul Gandhi on Monday. He is likely to meet Rahul in New Delhi soon to pour out his grievances. "Yes I have resigned as AICC secretary. I sent my resignation on Monday itself," Satish said.
Satish has been sulking ever since his name was dropped to make way for his elder brother Ramesh in the cabinet minutes before the swearing-in ceremony of new ministers on June 6. Sources close to him said that Satish has taken the issue very seriously and is in no mood to accept any position in the government even if he was offered by the party high command.
Satish was made AICC secretary to placate him after he was removed by the cabinet owing to his difference with the then Chief Minister
Siddaramaiah.
Meanwhile, AICC secretary Manickam Tagore met senior Congress leaders HK Patil and Prakash Khandra, who are also unhappy over not getting berth in the cabinet, to placate them.
Tagore, who met disgruntled MLAs at Patil's residence as directed by the high command, reportedly assured Patil's camp that they will get opportunity during the next round of cabinet expansion. Congress still has six berths to be filled under it's quota.
Speaking to reporters after meeting, Prakash Khandre, Bhalki MLA, said that he and other MLAs conveyed their feelings to AICC secretary. "Manickam has assured us that he will convey our feelings to party high command. We are confident of getting justice," Khandre said.
