Investing involves not only finding a good stock but also regularly tracking and evaluating your investments. To understand how your stocks have performed, it is important to compare their performance with suitable benchmarks. Value Research Online provides you all the relevant tools to study the performance of your stocks.

Interactive price chart
The interactive price chart gives you the historical price movement of a stock. You can find it under the Snapshot tab of the stock page. The chart automatically loads the best-suited index to compare your stock with. For example, for an IT company the suitable index is NIFTY IT.

Secondly, the chart also has a suitable broader-market index - for instance the NIFTY 50 for large caps, NIFTY Midcap 100 index for mid caps and NIFTY Smallcap 250 index for small caps - based on the market capitalisation of the stock. Moreover, the chart also provides the option to compare the stock with the biggest player in the sector. You just need to check the box adjacent to the competitor's name to use this feature. Further, you can manually add any company or index with the help of the search box provided.

You can compare the performance over any trailing period. The options available are YTD (year to date), one month, three months, one year, three years and so on. You can also choose a period as per your need and all the variables are re-based automatically.

Performance table
The performance table just below the chart provides you a quick summary of the historical performance of the stock over various trailing periods, along with the performance of the benchmark index and the broader-market index. Returns over one year are annualised.

Quick performance view
The stock page shows the one-year return figure in the top band of the stock page, along with the latest price and day's change. This quick view of the recent performance and the valuation in the same panel helps you form a quick opinion about the stock.
