PATNA: With Bihar Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday raising the issue of grave anomalies in the class-12 results and attacking Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on the matter, the ruling JD(U) asked him to explain his elder brother Tej Pratap’s recent statement about the presence of anti-social elements in RJD.

Tejashwi, who is RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s younger son, met Governor Satya Pal Malik and raised before him the issue of continuing protests by students since Bihar School Education Board (BSEB) published the class-12 results on June 6.

Hundreds of examinees, including many who had cleared the recently held Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE Mains), have been protesting against BSEB’s “bizarre evaluation and marking system” as many of them secured either zero or unexpectedly low marks in subjects in which they were very proficient. Many others said they were failed in certain subjects while they got more than the full marks in some other subjects.

In a series of tweets, Tejashwi attacked CM and JD(U) president Nitish Kumar for his silence on the matter even as the affected students kept protesting. “Nitishjee does not speak on malpractice, bad results and the corruption in Bihar board. He also does not take any action on the education mafia active in his home district of Nalanda. A few of his officials are right and honest, but are lakhs of students in Bihar wrong and dishonest?” he said in a tweet.

Since BSEB authorities have already started taking corrective measures to redress the grievance of students, the ruling JD(U) leaders accused Tejashwi of unnecessarily politicking over the issue. JD(U) spokesperson and MLC Neeraj Kumar asked Tejashwi to instead pay attention to the turmoil in his party after his brother and ex-minister Tej Pratap Yadav’s recent outbursts.

“Tejashwi must clarify which anti-social elements are present in his party. It is his own brother who has said that anti-social elements have entered RJD,” said Neeraj Kumar in an open letter he wrote to Tejashwi. Kumar also raised the issue of Tej Pratap’s statements about RJD state president Ram Chandra Purve, terming them as an “insult to a senior leader”.
