GLOW season 2 trailer: What will happen in the new series on Netflix?

GLOW season 2 is almost here and Netflix has finally dropped a brand new trailer for what looks like an exciting series. Here’s a look at the latest promo.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for GLOW season 1

GLOW was a huge hit on Netflix last year with the heartwarming 80s drama capturing the attention of fans worldwide.

The series combines comedy and 80s splendour with serious topics and Alison Brie shines in the lead role as struggling actress Ruth Wilder.

The highly anticipated second season is due to drop on Netflix on Friday, June 29.

Season one ended with the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling filming their pilot and getting deal with a network to begin making the women’s wrestling TV show, GLOW.

The action takes place in and out of the ring and the concurrent plot line features the relationship between Ruth and her former best friend Debbie Eagan (played by Betty Gilpin).

Early on viewers learn that Ruth had an affair with her friend’s husband Mark (Rich Sommer) causing the break-down of her marriage.

When they are both cast in a new wrestling show they play rival wrestlers; Ruth is the Soviet heel Zoya the Destroya and Debbie is the all-American hero, Liberty Belle.

Season two is set to explore whether they can move past what happened and learn to work together.

What will happen in GLOW season 2?

The synopsis for season two from Netflix reads: “Season two follows the women of GLOW as they become local celebrities, confronting the good, the bad, and the ugly realities of their newfound fame.

“As Ruth and Debbie settle into the day-to-day of making a season of TV together, they confront lingering issues at the heart of their friendship.

“Sam (Marc Maron) is still Sam, but now he has a teenage daughter living with him and twenty episodes to churn out.

“The wrestling is harder, the stakes are higher, and the hair is even bigger.”

The trailer opens with the GLOW crew posing for a polaroid and kicking off the new season in its typical bright and tacky 80s style.

Some major aspects of the upcoming season that the trailer hints include dealing with fame, struggling with stereotypes, the very topical #MeToo movement and of course, Ruth and Debbie’s relationship.

Debbie’s life seems to be unravelling around her as she is seen trashing her home and then lying on the floor of the ring with her baby.

“Just hope she can keep up,” she sneers at Ruth.

Kia Stevens who plays Tammé aka The Welfare Queen is seen defending her racist character to her son who is attending university.

“It’s a wrestling show - I’m not the only offensive character,” she protests.

Viewers are introduced to the “weirdos” who wait for the wrestlers after their shows.

One is even dressed up in a Sheila the She Wolf costume, much to the real Sheila’s (Gayle Rankin) annoyance.

Then a huge bombshell as Debbie announces that the show is going to be cancelled.

A worried Ruth blames herself before the trailer shows her in a room with a man who is touching her as she appears to be incredibly uncomfortable.

“That is how this business works!” Debbie shouts at her.

No doubt this will be a huge theme this season, with echoes in the real world and a deep exploration of the expectations placed on women in Hollywood both then and now.

“It shouldn’t be that way,” Ruth cries.

Her refusal to sleep with a network boss leads to the show being given a new time slot and a men’s wrestling show in its place.

What ensues is an uplifting montage which shows the women working harder than ever in order to get their show’s popularity up.

Bash (Chris Lowell) gives a rousing speech: “Look I know this is going to be hard but I believe in miracles and we are going to make this miracle happen!”
