Police track down a New Democracy Chandranna group leader

CPI (ML-New Democracy) Chandranna group seems to have suffered yet another setback in the undivided Khammam district with the arrest of the outfit’s Gundala underground squad commander Boda Bheemudu alias Sudhakar by the police in Kusumanchi mandal on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, the Kusumanchi police tracked him down at Jujulraopeta Cross Roads while he was allegedly trying to flee from Bachodu village where he took shelter with the help of three persons owing allegiance to the outfit, sources said.

The police seized a .32 revolver, two rounds of ammunition and a diary containing the contact numbers of several contractors and a mobile phone from him, police sources added.

In January this year, the Palvancha police arrested another underground squad commander of the CPI (ML-ND) Chandranna group at Reddygudem village in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district and seized a country-made weapon from his possession.

Producing Bheemudu before the media here on Tuesday, Khammam Police Commissioner Tafseer Iqbal said that the arrested dalam commander was wanted in five offences, including a murder case and attack on a Forest Department officer in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district. “A case has been registered against three local leaders of the outfit, including one from Kusumanchi mandal and two from Tirumalayapalem mandal, for providing shelter to Bheemudu, who has been evading police for long,” Mr. Iqbal said.
