JAIPUR: A leopard fell into an open well in Baleshwar Dham village of Sikar district on Monday and was rescued after a two-hour-long operation by the forest department.
According to villagers, the leopard was chasing a monkey when it fell into the open well.

During the rescue operation, the forest officials initially lowered a ladder into the well hoping to pull out the animal along with the ladder. However, the idea proved unsuccessful since the ladder was short.

After several failed attempts, the department tied a tree branch to the ladder. The leopard clutched onto it and was bailed out.

Sources claimed, the leopard charged at the villagers soon after coming out of the well. However, it ran into the forest without attacking any one.

Leopards have been frequently straying into this area due to prevailing drought conditions creating panic among villagers.

Around 4 am on Monday, villagers heard howls of the beast from a well. They peeped into the 15-ft-deep well and spotted the leopard moving around in the water. Villagers informed the forest department. "The animal must have been in predatory action and fell into the well," a forest guard said.
