Online ticket booking for shows starts

For the convenience of visitors and to streamline the existing process, online booking of tickets for the light and sound shows at Cellular Jail and Ross Island has been started by the Andaman Administration. Now tourists need not visit Government offices at Port Blair to buy the tickets. Booking is permitted 90 days in advance and up to 3.00 pm on the date of the show, at https://www.andamantourism.gov.in/etourist. There have been complaints in the past about issuing of tickets for the shows and the online ticketing will surely help tourists.
 

Fake news flagged

Recently, many news agencies across India published a news report with the headline, “Urvashi Rautela has a flower named after her in Andaman and Nicobar Islands”. The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has clarified that this was fake news. The clarification came after a daily in Andaman carried the news. The Andaman Administration has advised media persons to refrain from publishing fake news. Rautela had triggered a controversy earlier by claiming she had been crowned “Youngest Most Beautiful Woman in the Universe 2018 by the government & tourism of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.” The Andaman and Nicobar Administration had rejected the claim.

Traders’ strike ends

Traders in Great Nicobar Island called off their strike last Saturday against inadequate cargo after receiving an assurance from the administration that their demands would be looked into and redressed within a stipulated period. A delegation of traders and some Panchayati Raj Institute Members had met the Chief Secretary of the Islands at Port Blair and received the assurance. Later, in a meeting held at Campbell Bay on Saturday afternoon, the traders decided to withdraw the protest. The vessel MV Champbell Bay, which the protesters were not allowing to sail back to Port Blair, was allowed to sail by Saturday evening.
 

Serial undergarments thief

Social media in Andaman and Nicobar Islands is abuzz with discussions about a serial women’s undergarments thief who was arrested recently in Andaman. While some users have called the accused a psychopath, others are demanding strict action against him, saying that such a mentality often leads to rape attempts. Andaman and Nicobar Police arrested 36-year-old Pradeep Kumar from Calicut area of South Andaman for stealing a large number of women’s undergarments from the neighbourhood. The accused was obsessed with stealing women’s undergarments and storing them in the barrack he shared with other labourers. The matter came to light when a resident of the area caught him when the accused broke into his house to steal an underwear. The matter was reported to the police and during investigation he first maintained that he stole the undergarments for wearing, but later reportedly admitted that he was obsessed with stealing undergarments for fantasy.
