Mid-Michigan communities opt in to medical marijuana facilities law

The City of Mt. Pleasant has now joined the list of communities in Michigan that have opted in to the state law allowing medical marijuana facilities.

The 2016 state law allows cities, townships and villages to decide if they want to allow the businesses.

Here is a list of area municipalities that have opted in, according to the state Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs:

CLARE COUNTY

Clare: Will allow processing centers, provisioning centers, secure transporters, safety compliance and grow operations. No limit on the number.

ISABELLA COUNTY

Wise Township: Will allow two of each: Processing centers, provisioning centers, safety compliance and secure transporters. Will allow two Class A grow operations (up to 500 plants each), two Class B grow operations (1,000 plants each) and two Class C grow operations (1,500 plants each).

Mt. Pleasant: No limit on processing centers, secure transporters and safety compliance facilities. Three provisioning centers, three grow operations for Class B and C combined, and five Class A grow operations.

GRATIOT COUNTY

Seville Township: No provisioning centers, processing centers, grow operations or safety testing facilities. Will allow two secure transporters.

MIDLAND COUNTY

Coleman: Will allow four of each type: Class A, B and C grow operations, provisioning centers, processing centers, secure transporters and safety compliance facilities.

GLADWIN COUNTY

Beaverton Township: Will allow three Class A, three Class B and three Class C grow operations; two provisioning centers, two processing centers, one safety compliance and three secure transporters.

Tobacco Township: Will allow one Class A grow operation, one Class B, one class C, one provisioning center, one processing center, one safety compliance facility and two secure transporters.

Hay Township: Will allow one provisioning center and none of the others.
