A Small Plane Was Forced To Land On Florida Interstate

Two men flying a small plane in Alachua County, Florida were forced to make an emergency landing on Interstate I-75.

WCTV reports that the plane landed in the northbound lanes of I-75 near Paynes Prairie. Video from a passerby shows the moment the plane flew just feet above cars on the Interstate before touching down.

The plane was reportedly on its way to Gainesville Regional Airport when the pilot called in to traffic control to report engine issues.

After the plane landed, it was towed to a nearby rest stop, much to the amazement of locals.

“I was wondering what had happened cause a plane at a rest stop is a little unusual,” John Graves told WCJB.

This certainly isn’t something you see everyday.

Fortunately, neither of the two plane occupants nor any road users were injured in the strange ordeal. All three lanes on I-75 were quickly reopened when the plane was towed away. The Federal Aviation Administration says it is investigating the unscheduled landing.

Surprisingly, it’s not unheard of for small planes to make emergency landings on public roads. Back in 2015, we reported on a very similar incident were a plane landed on a busy street in California.
