Heavy Industries Minister Anant Geete has said, government is making effort to promote electric buses in the country.
Briefing reporters in New Delhi today on the achievements of his Ministry in the four years, Mr Geete said, the electric buses will reduce consumption of petrol and diesel.
He said, the Department of Heavy Industries has sanctioned 500 electric buses across nine major cities. The Minister said, currently India is importing lithium-ion batteries from China which are used in electric vehicles. He said, India will soon be able to manufacture these batteries.
He said, at present the cost of the battery is around 50 to 60 lakh rupees and if the battery cost is reduced, the total cost of electric vehicles will become affordable.
