It started with a handshake, photographed, analysed and beamed around the world at light speed.

Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un finally met in Singapore on Tuesday morning, ending weeks of on-again, off-again brinksmanship.

Whether it can bring stability to the Korean peninsula is another matter.

Analysts remain sceptical that Kim, who has repeatedly linked nuclear weapons with the survival of his regime, is willing to give up any part of his arsenal.

For his part, Mr Trump was expected to offer investment and assurances that regime change was not the American goal as he tries to coax Kim towards denuclearisation.
