Coimbatore:
Two motorists, who mowed down two women under the influence of alcohol on Monday,
have been lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.
Police identified the first man as N Parasuraman of Kinathukavau, a tipper truck driver. “He was driving a truck carrying sand. Around 8.40am Monday, while nearing GD Tank on Vellalore Main Road at Podanur, the vehicle crashed against a scooter. G Krithika, 30, of Podanur, who was riding the two-wheeler, suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot,†a police officer said.
Krithika, who was employed in a school at Podanur, was on the way to the work. TIW police sent the body to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for postmortem. Based on Krithika’s husband S Govindarajulu’s complaint, police registered a case against truck driver Parasuraman under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code and 185 (driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of drugs) of the Motor Vehicles Act. Parasuraman was in an inebriated condition while driving, police said. He was produced before a judicial magistrate and later remanded in judicial custody. He is lodged in the city jail.
In the second incident, 80-year-old Meenakshi of Chithannapuram near Podanur was killed after a motorcycle hit her while crossing Vellalore Main Road on Monday afternoon. TIW police said that the two-wheeler rider B Madhuravan, an electrician from Machampalayam, was drunk at the time of the incident. “He was riding the motorcycle in a rash and negligent manner. The elderly woman suffered severe head injuries and was taken to the CMCH, where doctors declared her as brought dead,†the officer said. Police arrested Madhuravan and lodged him in the prison.
