The Upper Arlington Police Division is seeking a suspect in an altercation outside a Shops on Lane Avenue restaurant that resulted in a man’s death.

Police have released a photo of Jeffery Larmar Smith, 51, address unknown, and are looking for him in connection with a homicide that occurred June 11 behind China Dynasty, 1689 W. Lane Ave.

According to Upper Arlington police officer Bryan McKean, officers were called to the restaurant at 4:23 p.m. Monday, June 11, on a report of a physical altercation between two men.

Upon arrival, they found a 31-year-old Columbus man bleeding and unresponsive outside behind the restaurant.

Police administered aid and started CPR until medics could transport the man to Riverside Methodist Hospital, where he died sometime later.

The Upper Arlington Police Division has not released the name of the man, pending notification of his family.

McKean wouldn’t say if the altercation took place inside the restaurant or in the parking lot. He also declined to provide any details of the incident, except to say “a weapon was involved.”

“If anyone knows Mr. Smith’s whereabouts, they are asked to contact the Upper Arlington Police Division,” McKean said. “We don’t believe he’s in this area but again, we’re currently investigating, we’re trying to find him.”

Smith is described as an African-American man who is 5-feet, 9-inches tall and weighing 180 pounds.

Anyone with information about Smith’s whereabouts is asked to call UAPD at 614-583-5160.

“Obviously, this person is a dangerous person and we are working tirelessly to find him,” McKean said.

McKean wouldn’t say if anyone witnessed the altercation but said additional details would be provided Tuesday morning, June 12.

The last homicide in Upper Arlington was September 2010 when a man on Doone Road killed his two sons, ages 8 and 6, before committing suicide.
