Palanpur: Nearly three years after two Patidars died in police firing in Banaskantha’s Gadh village, nephew of one of the deceased has begun a fast unto death demanding action against the policemen.
Brijesh Patel, nephew of Kanu Patel who was killed along with Mahesh Patel on August 26, 2015, began the fast at the district collector premises. The quota agitation had turned violent after Patidar leader Hardik Patel was arrested at the GMDC ground in Ahmedabad. Brijesh has found support from Sardar Patel Group president Lalji Patel and several PAAS conveners Geeta Patel, Dinesh Bambhaniya and Nilesh Patel. Hardik will be reaching Palanpur on Wednesday. Brijesh said he had submitted a memorandum to district collector Sandip Sagle last Tuesday urging him to take action against the erring policemen who had opened fire in Gadh village. He demanded that the the name of the officials who fired and the one who ordered them should be made public.

“When a murder case has been registered by the police under section 302, how is are officers responsible allowed to discharge the duty? A comprehensive report in this connection was prepared by then DIG Vipul Agrawal but the copy of the report was not given to the kin of the deceased,” Brijesh stated. He told TOI, the state government will be responsible if anything happens to me as there has been no action taken on my memorandum for a week now.
