Kerala HC informed in response to a writ petition

The government on Monday informed a Division Bench of the Kerala High Court that steps had been taken to curb a misinformation campaign launched by fringe elements about Nipah and safeguard the lives of citizens against the outbreak of the virus.

The submission was made in a statement filed in response to a writ petition filed two students of the National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi, seeking a directive to take the video footage containing misleading information about the Nipah virus off social media and YouTube.

The government had requested the Centre to take immediate action to remove the videos from the sites following the receipt of the complaint from the students. Uploading of videos by Mohanan Vaidyan of Cherthala and Jacob Vadakanchery of Kochi had interfered with the emergency medical operations undertaken by the State to contain the outbreak. .
