Telangana boy among toppers in JEE Advanced, 2 Andhra students in top 10

HYDERABAD: Two students from Andhra Pradesh made it to top 10 in Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2018, results of which were declared on Sunday. A Telangana boy secured 11th rank in Common Rank List (CRL).



MSK Manohar from Vijayawada secured All-India fifth rank. K V R Hemant Kumar Chodipilli from Visakhapatnam secured seventh rank. Gosula Vinayaka Srivardhan, who bagged 11th rank in CRL, was topper from Telangana. Srivardhan had secured 10th rank in JEE Main. Suraj Krishna B, who was JEE Main all-India topper, secured 49th rank this time.

“I made some silly mistakes in JEE Mains . This time, I maintained my composure and got a positive result,” said Manohar (59th rank in Mains).

Over 18,000 students qualify JEE Advanced

Son of a tailor, Manohar said studying at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) till class 10 helped him think independently. He attributed his success to the JNV education system.

A total of 18,138 students, from among 1,55,158, who appeared for the exam, have qualified for entry into IITs. This is more than 1.6 times the number of seats being offered. However, compared with last year’s figures of 50,455, few candidates have qualified in the advanced examination this time.

“We got 22 ranks in the top 100 in the unreserved category, including Pranav Goyal, a fulltime student at our Chandigarh branch. Hemant Kumar, who secured seventh rank in CRL, too, is our student,” said Sushma Boppana, academic head, Sri Chaitanya Group of Educational Institutions.

The institute secured many ranks in the reserved category, too, he said.

Apart from Sri Chaitanya students, four students of FIITJEE from Telangana and AP also featured in the top 100 national list, including south India topper Manohar.

In reserved categories, Narayana Educational Institutions said their students secured 13 ranks in top 10 (in various categories) and 65 ranks in top

100. Aayush Kadam, who secured all-India first rank in SC category is, also, a student from Telangana.

Of the total qualified candidates, 8,794 got through under general category, 3,140 under OBC category, 4,709 under SC, and 1,495 under ST category.
