Stating that water from a well in their village is planned to be drawn and distributed to agriculture land 6 km away, residents of Vinoba Nagar in Kongarpalayam panchayat in Thukkkanaikkenpalayam Union submitted a petition to the District Collector here on Monday.

The petition said that there were about 300 families living in the village who mainly depend on their small agriculture land for their livelihood.

They said that a combined water supply scheme was implemented in their village where water from a well is drawn and supplied to nearby villages. Though water scarcity existed for them, they did not oppose the scheme as it is for common people.

Some persons had recently purchased 10 cents and had dug a well recently. They were planning to install a motor pump to draw water from the well and lay pipelines for over 6 km to distribute the water to their lands.

It will lead to drying up of borewells in the area, the petition said. Villagers said that farming activity could not be carried out and drinking water shortage would loom large if they implement the project.
