Traders in Bhavani Town once again oppose laying pipelines through the town and wanted alternative route to be studied for laying the pipelines.
The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board is implementing the Dedicated Water Supply Scheme (DWSS) to Erode City Municipal Corporation for which water is drawn from River Cauvery at Uratchikottai village.
The feeder line is to pass through the town traders and residents object to it as it would affect their business and houses respectively. They recently submitted petition to District Collector S. Prabhakar who asked officials to work out the cost for laying pipelines along an alternative route.
Recently, a meeting was conducted by Gobichettipalayam Revenue Divisional Officer S. Govindaraj at the Bhavani Taluk Office in which Bhavani Tahsildar Sivagami, officials from TWAD Board, the police, traders and representatives from various associations participated. Traders said that laying pipelines would affect their business for over three months apart from causing extensive damage to the houses and existing water pipelines.
They said it will also affect the ancient Sangameswarar temple in the town. Officials said that permission had been obtained from the district administration, municipality, highways and other departments for laying pipelines. But traders strongly opposed to it and wanted pipelines to be laid along an alternative route.
The meeting concluded without taking any decision.
