With the arrest of three people, police today claimed to have busted two bids to smuggle bovines in Udhampur district and rescued 49 animals from their possession.
Acting on a tip-off, police parties of Police Station Rehmbal and Tikri intercepted two trucks at a check-post on a highway near Tikri last night, a police officer said today.
Noticing the police, driver of one of the truck abandoned his vehicle and fled away from the spot taking advantage of dense forests, the officer said.
During checking of both the trucks, 44 bovine animals were found illegally and cruelly loaded in these vehicles, he said.
The accused driver of other truck was identified as Mohd Younis of Ramban and was arrested on the spot, he said, adding both the vehicles were seized.
Foiling another smuggling bid in Udhampur district last night, police arrested two persons and rescued 5 bovine animals were from their vehicle, the officer added.
