Four days after the one-way traffic system was implemented on Kollampalayam bypass road, four-wheelers continue to violate the norms creating congestion.
The bypass road connects Erode Main Road, near Railway Colony Municipal Higher Secondary School, and Karur Bypass Road, near 46 Pudur Road.
As the stretch passes through residential area, eight speed breakers were present to prevent speeding of vehicles.
Allowing two-way traffic in the half-km narrow stretch cause frequent traffic congestion as there is a strong demand for introducing one-way traffic system.
On Thursday, the police placed a sign board announcing that four-wheelers from Karur Road will not be allowed to enter the stretch. Two traffic personnel were present there for an hour in the morning diverting four-wheelers.
Later, four-wheelers continue to defy the rule and enter the stretch creating congestion. Motorists said that cars, autorickshaws and other four-wheelers can be allowed to take the left turn in the stretch and reach the temple area and get connected to the main road.
Instead making the entire stretch one way for four-wheelers is unacceptable, said a car owner. He said that only 200 metre of the stretch which is narrow face congestion and not the remaining stretch. We have to take an additional 4 km, he added.
Many car users said that instead of forcing four-wheelers to violate the one-way rule, the 200 metre stretch alone can be made as one-way. They said that it will ensure smooth flow of vehicles in the entire stretch.
