Mumbai Metro may claim 297 trees on road from Andheri to Vile Parle

MUMBAI: A lush green cover stretching from Gulmohar Road in Juhu Vile Parle to D N Nagar, Andheri, is likely be lost to the upcoming Metro 2B line.



As many as 297 fully grown trees along this 4.4kmlong road are slated to be hacked by Metro authorities, an RTI application has revealed, shocking local residents and environmentalists. This stretch has a total of 388 trees, of which 75% will be chopped.

Last month, MMRDA, the implementing agency for the transport project, sought permission to have these removed. It recently revealed the information to tree activist Zoru Bhatena.
