JEE Advance: Healthy competition among friends mantra for success

Eight students travelled from different parts of the country to Kota. They bonded instantly and stood by each other in their quest for success in one of the toughest entrance exams in the country.

The eight teenage boys met at Allen Career Institute, Kota, where they had enrolled for coaching. Now, the eight, having bagged a place in the top 50 in JEE-Advanced, are confident of finding a place at IIT-Mumbai.

Lay Jain, from Kota, got All-India Rank (AIR) 9, while Rourkela’s Karan Agarwal got AIR 21. Following them is Delhi’s Navleen Singhal with AIR 23, Ajmer’s Aditya Agarwal with AIR 24, Parth Laturiya of Maharashtra’s Nanded with AIR 29, Mumbai’s Bhaskar Gupta got AIR 30, Pune’s Arjun Shashank got AIR 33 and Kota’s Yash Gupta got AIR 42.

Happy with their results, they partied hard, however, Bhaskar and Aditya, who were at their home states, were missing. “We want our friendship to stand the test of time. As friends, we understand each other and have been successful in using group studies to boost our marks. I am sure, if we keep our friendship intact, we can help each other do better in the future too,” said Yash.

Some of these teens travelled from metro cities to small town, Kota, to pursue their dream of cracking the JEE-Advanced. Proper coaching and friendship with like-minded friends helped them achieve their dream.

“The biggest positive thing about Kota and Allen Career Institute is that most of the meritorious students spend time together. After meeting each other, we realised that as friends, we need to boost each other’s confidence and that’s exactly what we did,” said Lay.

Arjun’s success is a living testimony to this. He ranked 371 in JEE Mains and it disappointed him. The other six had secured positions among the top 50. His friends, however, stood by Arjun and they helped him secure AIR 33 in JEE Advanced.

“It’s not like we don’t compete with each other. Of course, we do. Else, we wouldn’t have been able to achieve this. The fact is that we have been trained to maintain a healthy competition amongst each other has helped us,” Parth said.

“Nothing can be better than the news that your students are doing well in life. The fact that this group of eight friends has made it to the top 50 is an achievement for Kota and our institute,” said Rajesh Maheshwari, director, Allen Career Institute.
