RAIPUR: Slamming Congress chief Rahul Gandhi for questioning the Narendra Modi government’s achievements, BJP president Amit Shah sought to know the contributions of the Gandhi family in last 55 years.
“Today, Rahul Baba asks the details on what the Modi government has done in last four years. He should rather tell the country about what the Congress regime under Gandhis had done to the nation for four generations (of Nehru, Indira, Rajiv and Sonia) when they ruled for 55 years? The BJP remains answerable regarding its roles and performance,” he told a large rally in Ambikapur. Shah narrated the various schemes (from a list of 116) implemented by the Centre and also highlighted the Raman Singh government’s achievements in last 14 years.
In his 20-minute speech, Shah claimed only the BJP remains “accountable for its actions on governance” and reaches out to the public in every Assembly constituency with its record before the elections. “The Raman Singh government has not done anything that should make the party workers feel ashamed,” he said, exhorting BJP cadres not just to repeat their electoral success but to also secure a thumping victory that should uproot the Congress. The Grand Old Party is out of power in Chhattisgarh since 2003.
Earlier, Shah participated in a road show along with Chief Minister Raman Singh at Ambikapur city as a part of the ‘Vikas Yatra’. Shah also attended the BJP’s core committee meeting and sought feedback from the state leaders on the task assigned by him during his previous visit to Chhattisgarh in June last year when he had set the target of 65 seats in the 90-member House.
After the Karnataka polls, the BJP chief has shifted his focus on Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh where the party is in power during the last three consecutive terms. Meanwhile, the Congress criticised the ruling party for turning the government event of ‘Vikas Yatra’ into a mega BJP show.
“The BJP has converted the occasion into its political campaign in an election year. How can the BJP’s flag be allowed in a government programme? It’s gross misuse of public money,” Congress media cell chairman Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said.
