Two senior journalists from The Hindu received awards from Vizag Journalists’ Forum at the annual awards and merit scholarship distribution function held at Y.V.S. Murthy Auditorium here on Sunday.
While Kapila Gopala Rao Memorial Award was given to Special Correspondent G.V. Prasada Sarma, ‘best sub-editor’ award went to Assistant Editor G. Janardhana Rao.
The awards were given away by HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao. Special jury award was bagged by freelance journalist Ganjivarapu Srinivas. Sakshi bureau in-charge Garikipati Umakant received the ‘pride of media’ award.
In all, 28 awards and 122 scholarships to children of journalists were presented at the function.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the government was committed to the welfare of media persons.
Fee concession
Mr. Rao said they issued orders for 50% fee concession for journalist children at private schools in Visakhapatnam district and on the request of various associations, extended it to other districts in the State.
He promised to sort out if the journalists faced any problem in its implementation.
Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G. Nageswara Rao said the decision of VJF to give scholarships to meritorious children as laudable and complemented the award winners.
VJF president Gantla Srinubabu presided.
