Mohit Goel, the co-owner of Noida-based company named Ringing Bells, and two others were arrested by the police on Sunday for allegedly demanding ₹5 crore from a businessman in return for settling a ‘rape’ case against him.
A woman had on March 6 registered a case of gang rape against five Delhi-based businessmen in Rajasthan’s Alwar district.
The woman had alleged that she was invited to attend an event at a hotel in Alwar, where she was gang-raped. The police arrested all five accused businessmen.
Police complaint
“One of the arrested businessman’s brother told the police at Subhash Place station that a gang was trying to extort money from his brother. The police arrested three persons for extortion. The woman who had filed the rape complaint is also a part of the extortion gang,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Aslam Khan.
The police received a tip-off regarding the arrival of the gang members at the businessman’s office, which is located in a mall.
“The gang demanded ₹5 crore to settle the case. A deal was fixed at ₹1.3 crore. The gang had already been paid ₹30 lakh. On Sunday, the woman and the other gang members reached the businessman’s office for the next instalment of ₹30 lakh. Three of them were caught red-handed,” said an officer.
Mr. Goel’s company had announced smartphones for ₹251.
